Reasons #2

asked seed
of still mind
“Why empty?
My fall has roused and promised.”

and
thought
began

SPARKING

asked bud
of small thought
“Why halting?
My lift has swelled and stirred.”

and
idea
began

GROWING

asked plant
of languished idea
“Why stalling?
My vines have stretched and twisted.”

and
plans
began

SHAPING

asked flower
then of me
“Why wilting?
My petals have touched and colored.”

and
I
began

MOVING

Note: My friend, Jonathan Noble has dubbed this poetry form “vers l’avant”, or forward verse. It is a free verse repeated progressively, or cyclically, through a series of stages. I love his label. My first experiment with the form was “One for the Tree: Seasons”.

  1. Splendid! I believe this may be the best vers l’avant thus far (not to compare too closely, though, because all yours have been so good!) Simply beautiful and so very fluid! Kudos w/peace and blessings to you!

    1. Thank you so much, Jonathan! I was hoping you would like it. I had to travel back to your site to find “vers l’avant”, but now I’m tagging them that way.
Have a wonderful day, my friend, and happy writing!

  2. I have about run out of adjectives to compliment your work! This is stylish, smart, and skillful, Tanya. I really like this poem…it is thought provoking and uplifting! Good job…

    Steve 🙂

    1. Thank you, Steve! I’m blushing now.
😊 This is a structure I enjoy working within. I love the free verse elements, but my brain sees things in patterns. I get to explore both facets here.
Have a wonderful day, and thank you for all your support!😊

      1. Interesting…and, no need to blush. You are a very talented writer in verse and prose. Just own it, little lady!

I wish for half the talent you have…but I’ll keep working at things.

        Enjoy your Wisconsin evening…stay warm!

        🙂
