Cherita #18

Snow slowly melts.

Frigid rivulets
form dangling daggers.

Moonlight, through jagged reflections,
flashes pointed warning—
rising temps release nature’s knives.

the cat prowls the midnight garden

discovers scarlet rosebuds, sweet basil,
the flowers of chives, tempting catnip

as she explores
the moonlit Eden, grateful,
her senses come alive

toddler strapped
in the high chair cries

kitten purrs and

Nature chokes on smog

her fragile, mortal
breath exhales

industrial toxins escape
in ozone-wasting
expiration

dissonant chord struck

guitar strings pulled
too tightly

their tension teased
latent teardrops
from the heavy air

Muse clips
the break-blocked lines.

Page in motion,
writer grabs pen
and drives.

children play
in the newly thawed earth

Mother Nature observes
their dirty paws and fur
and sends the April rains

agitated the

“butterfly” banned

winged insect breaks through chrysalis
and drips dry

its first flight, a girl points, delighted,
and says,
“Look, a flutterby”

the writer was blocked

chapters and characters remained nameless
and the plot had holes

kicked the word bucket,
flooding pages
with a title wave of letter combinations
