Renewed

renewed
Nature wastes naught
recalls every dead leaf
that feeds the life of each fresh bud
if past’s ghosts filled her heart’s echo chamber
they would drown out the living beat
of spirit recycled
reawakened
renewed

Unlocked

unlocked
book’s adventure
eager fingers twist key
mystery of the novel unfolds
a maiden voyage sailed over the swells
rolling waves of turning pages
mind captains the tempest
heart’s fantasy
unlocked

Quenching

quenching
thirst of journey
through time’s scorched-earth sand dunes
desert-oasis pond appears
gathered by lore’s cupped hand, lapped by dry tongue
waters of youth’s giving fountain
wet sojourner’s parched lips
old soul’s desire
quenching

Dripping

dripping
in summer heat
morning dew off green leaf
sweat beads off the playing child’s brow
ice cream, vanilla-chocolate swirl, off scoops
caught by a hungry, lapping tongue
before lost to the ground
now, down face, sweet
dripping

Bloom

then danced,
laughing blossom
dressed in vivid petals
she blushed against the summer air
held nectar in pool, intoxicating
invited winged friend for deep drink
until both, satisfied
bathed in the light
then danced

Brush Strokes

brush strokes
press wet color
onto open surface
thirsty canvas sips the pigment
as liquid hue drips from the long bristles
painting in living color, thick
intoxicating drink
through sinuous
brush strokes

Batter

sticky
the faucet drips
honey flows in the bowl
slowly, clings to spoon for licking
greedy fingers wipe the beater spotless
coat our tongues with sweet, gooey mess
the mouthfuls we desire
come from batter
sticky

A Yarn

woven
a tapestry
with threads intertwining
writer knits a colorful yarn
carefully stitches in all the loose ends
tightens the narrative
reader unfolds the plot
mind perceives words
woven

Falling

falling
gentle drop down
the sole flight of spent leaf
cut off from life-sustaining tree
spinning freely, wind-tossed, euphoric flight
lands among the ground’s dead fodder
fuel the tree roots tap
autumn’s leaves are
falling

It Cracked

it cracked
like an old bell
statutes of liberty
when, from Command’s seat, pronounced
judgments on where a brother takes a knee
while islands flood in the darkness
and neighbors shift rubble
the king’s worn crown
it cracked
