the cat prowls the midnight garden

discovers scarlet rosebuds, sweet basil,
the flowers of chives, tempting catnip

as she explores
the moonlit Eden, grateful,
her senses come alive

children play
in the newly thawed earth

Mother Nature observes
their dirty paws and fur
